Ugandan Derby Drama: Express Stun KCCA, SC Villa Claim Bragging Rights

Few fixtures in Ugandan football carry the emotional weight of SC Villa versus Express FC. The rivalry goes beyond the 90 minutes, rooted in a long and fascinating history that has made both clubs giants of the Ugandan game.

SC Villa traces its roots to Nakivubo Boys, a team that emerged from Express FC before eventually becoming Nakivubo Villa and later SC Villa. Over the decades, Villa, Express and KCCA FC have been at the heart of Uganda’s top-flight football, producing generations of players, memorable matches, passionate supporters and fierce competition for domestic honours.

Villa remain Uganda’s most successful league club, while Express and KCCA have also built proud and decorated histories of their own.
That heritage is what makes Villa against Express one of the country’s greatest football derbies, a fixture where history, pride and bragging rights are always on the line.
Today, SC Villa had the upper hand, beating Express FC 2–0 at Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

Today, more fans turned up with one question on their minds: could Express FC challenge SC Villa after the Red Eagles had already stunned another major rival, KCCA FC, with a 2–0 victory? Much of the attention was on Express FC’s new signing, musician and footballer Derrick Ddungu, popularly known as Rickman Manrick, who scored a late goal on his debut to help Express secure a memorable 2–0 win over KCCA FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on September 3, 2026. Also drawing plenty of attention was Alpha Thierry Ssali, son of Ugandan musician Bebe Cool (Moses Ssali), whose impressive dribbles excited the fans. With both Rickman and Ssali T becoming part of the Express FC story, supporters turned up in numbers to see whether the two could produce more magic for the Red Eagles against another historic rival, SC Villa. The stage was set for another chapter in what is arguably Uganda’s biggest football rivalry so far, with the latest results leaving the bragging rights firmly on the line:
